About The Book
Success comes in many shapes and sizes and for whatever reason it can show up when you least expect it. For some it’s a surprise, for others they have been preparing for this their whole life. The story of a California kid named Ricky Price shares a little bit of both. This story follows a young child with an uncanny love for the game of basketball. A love that would take him on an incredible journey as a middle school phenom, to a high school All American, to a 9-year professional basketball player.
This story chronicles the maturation of boy to a man hoping to navigate down a path to NBA stardom. Ricky shares some of the most unbelievable stories including the many people who changed his life forever. Unknowingly, along the way he develops a strategy which aided his success in hoops and for life after basketball.
THE POWER OF VISUALIZATION manifested in my life in ways that some viewed as prophetic. I actually pictured myself being a college basketball star, doing dunks that would go down in history, making the game winning shot, hearing the crowd cheer for me, and eventually becoming a professional basketball player.

Introduction
An Executive Order by Governor Roy Cooper has just been issued, mandating that in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus, North Carolina has a statewide stay-at-home order.
My name is Ricky Price, Founder and President of Game Ready Skills and Development, LLC. All gyms and parks have been closed to the public, and as a result Game Ready’s day-to-day activities have come to a screeching halt. Training has stopped. Camps and Clinics have stopped. Corporate Team Building is at a standstill. Nothing, nothing at all… I explored the virtual training option, but I believe clients learn more and achieve better results in person rather than virtually. At Game Ready, we like for our players to focus and finish, especially during ball handling drills that require them to make a move, and then finish with a layup. Easy to do if you have a basketball hoop at home. Literally impossible to do if you don’t. I made the decision for Game Ready to implement the “COVID-19 halt”.Thank God for good friends. Some people don’t have one true friend, but I have been fortunate enough to have three best friends. They were all instrumental in the making of this book.
Basketball has served me many slices of humble pie, but I still love her—in fact, she still may be my greatest love. Despite having received accolades at the highest level, a world class education, and reaped financial gains, basketball had a way of making me question myself at times. More times than not I based my entire life on whether I was playing the game well or not. It undoubtedly became my identity. Most basketball players experience eye-opening and heart-shattering encounters along their basketball journey. I certainly have proven to be no exception. I had to learn that it was not what happened to you, but how you responded to what happened to you that ultimately defined you.
Armed with my “what”, I started to put together my “why”. I developed five pillars on which my company, Game Ready, stands. Throughout this book I talk about the pillars, which provide tools to enhance your life beyond the game of basketball, and ways to ultimately grow your business:
- Visualize and Imagine: By visualizing your goal you prepare yourself to manifest what you imagine.
- Competitive Spirit:A way to strive to be the best is to approach life with a winning mindset.
- Perseverance and Mental Toughness: Push through a tough situation like the heartache and pain of injury. By remaining steadfast one can withstand such situations and pick themselves up during trying times.
- Hard Work: Put in the long hours so that you can prepare to be the best when opportunities arise. Couple that with talent and your goals can be achieved.
- Confidence:Believe that you will succeed even when it may not appear to be possible. Push through fear.
Excerpt from the Foreward – by Coach K
In Celebrate Your Wins, Ricky Price takes readers on a thorough journey – his life journey specifically. From the time he was a celebrated high school athlete to his matriculation to Duke to becoming a founder of his own LLC, Game Ready, Ricky’s real-world story contains many plot twists.
At the core of much of his account is basketball, the game for which he and I share incredible passion and has played such an integral part in both of our lives. The game can build you up. And, conversely, it can break you down. The way we manage such ebbs and flows help define us not only as participants, but as men.
